Things We Lost In the Fire
There’s already an Oscar buzz surrounding this movie way before its release…and not just because it stars the Academy Award-winning Benicio Del Toro and Halle Berry. The story—about a troubled man who comes to live with the family of his recently deceased best friend, helping them to deal with their loss while healing himself in the process—is said to be extremely powerful. Coming October 26 from Paramount Pictures.
López Joins Salma
Nicolás López is the first filmmaker to sign with Salma Hayek’s new Ventanazul production company. The 24-year-old Chilean turned his back on Hollywood two years ago when he was asked to produce a remake of Revenge of the Nerds. He instead persuaded the producers of Pan’s Labyrinth to give him more than $7 million dollars to make his hit Spanish language superhero comedy, Santos. He describes his first venture for Salma as “a John Ford western, Terminator, and Back to the Future rolled into one, with a budget of $15 million and filming set to start in Chile.” Salma told the L.A. Times that López “represents the Internet generation that is connected to the world.” López, who idolizes Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, told the paper, “I’m tired of seeing movies where we are all poor and barefoot and we don’t know what Wi-Fi is.”
