Dancing’s latest Hispanic heartthrob,

stars celebrate their Latino Legacy,

and Ugly Betty’s wardrobe wizard wins again

Ali Landry dazzled on the red carpet two nights in row while accepting awards for Bella with writer-director husband Alejandro Gomez Monteverde and the film’s star Eduardo Verástegui. Svelte in a black Jennie Packham to the Movieguide Awards, she was equally radiant the next night in a Tadashi gown, Swarovski clutch, Boshique jewelry and Stuart Weitzman shoes as Bella was honored with the Latino Legacy Award at the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts’ Bacardi-sponsored party.

Hélio Castroneves won the last Dancing With the Stars battle—could another Latin heartthrob make it two in a row? We’ll find out starting Mar. 17, when season 6 premieres with Chilean hunk Cristián de la Fuente among the hopeful hoofers. He’ll be paired with two-time champ Cheryl Burke.

Other stars were on hand to celebrate included Tony Plana, Maria Conchita Alonso, Aimee Garcia, Esai Morales, and presenter Adam Rodriguez, sporting a beard he grew during his three-month hiatus during the Writers Guild strike, when he made a movie in New York called The Kiss of Chaos, playing a drug dealer’s bodyguard in a drama he described as “Pulp Fiction but even darker.” He’ll be back on CSI: Miami Mar 24 for eight new episodes.

Plana was eager to go back to work at Ugly Betty, even though he enjoyed spending “great quality time” with his family, and Alonso was looking forward to the April premiere of her VH1 reality series ¡Viva Hollywood!, in which a dozen bi-lingual Latins will live together while competing for a role on a Telemundo telenovela, a Miami Beach apartment, a management contract and $100,000.  Wearing a dress by the show’s stylist, “I’m La Diva de la Casa,” she said, naming Carlos Ponce and Walter Mercado as co-hosts and dropping a few guest names: Daisy Fuentes, Cheech Marin and Charo. She has a few movies coming up and hopes to reprise her role as Gabby’s mom on Desperate Housewives, which returns with new episodes Apr. 13. ‘They didn’t kill me,” she reminds. “I saw Marc Cherry and he said, ‘I’ve got to bring you back!’ I hope so!”

Garcia, in a sexy black Versace dress and bag with Kate Spade shoes, was excited about her spring movies Graduation and Major Movie Star, with Jessica Simpson, and a possible ABC pilot. Presenter Morales, now in Jericho as Maj. Beck, “a good man under bad orders,” also has movie roles coming up later this year. He’ll play a mogul mixed up with an ex-con in Kill Kill Faster Faster and in La Linea, a drug cartel honcho who’s the target of a hitman (Ray Liotta).

Costume designer Eduardo Castro picked up his second honor for his wardrobe wizardry on Ugly Betty and third trophy overall at the Costume Designers Guild Awards Feb. 19. He spent the three-month Writers Guild strike hiatus helping a friend design futuristic outfits for the movie Dragonball, and will be back at Betty on Monday. “I have no clue what the directors or writers have in mind,” he said, though a musical episode is in the works. The first of five new episodes premieres Apr. 24.  In other awards news, Betty’s America Ferrera and Vanessa Williams won NAACP Image Awards for their work on the show.

Finally, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony on the birth of their twins,
a boy and a girl, on Feb. 22. ¡Felicidades!
