Eva’s parties, America’s movies, plus dish on new flicks with Christina, Freddie and more!
Eva Longoria Parker celebrated her 33rd birthday in style—and multiple—with four separate parties in separate cities, beginning Mar. 12 at her restaurant Beso in Hollywood with pals Mario Lopez, Marcia Cross and Sheryl Crow. She had two bashes in Miami that Friday and Saturday (her actual birthday) and then came the main event—a surprise party staged by hubby Tony Parker in San Antonio, complete with a scavenger hunt, a themed dinner based on the board game Clue, and the biggest surprise of all, Tony himself emerging from his team mascot’s uniform! We hear Eva loved it!

In the just-opened drama Stop-Loss, the horrors of the Iraq war come home with soldiers lucky enough to survive. While the story centers on a sergeant (Ryan Phillippe) who goes AWOL when he’s stop-lossed—his service is extended against his will—Victor Rasuk (Raising Victor Vargas, Lords of Dogtown) makes an indelible impression in a poignantly tragic scene that will stay with you long after the credits roll. Rasuk will next appear in The Argentine, the Che Guevara biopic starring Benicio Del Toro and Catalina Sandino Moreno.
Freddie Prinze Jr. stars in the sweet love story Jack and Jill vs. the World as a rich, bored ad exec whose life is turned upside down by a free spirited girl (Taryn Manning) who broadens his horizons. Her secret is an obstacle, but it all works out in the end in the movie, opening Apr. 4. The same date, new mom Christina Aguilera makes a guest appearance in the Rolling Stones concert documentary Shine a Light. She duets with Mick Jagger on “Live With Me.”

While you’re waiting for Ugly Betty’s return Apr 24 (with five new episodes) you can catch America Ferrera on the big screen. In the tragic drama Towards Darkness, about the rampant kidnappings in Colombia, she plays a friend of a young man held or ransom whose fate is tied to hers (we won’t spoil it for you, but it’s a shocker!). Ferrera also has a supporting role in Under the Same Moon, starring our Feb./Mar. cover girl Kate Del Castillo as an illegal immigrant mom whose young son (Adrián Alonso), left alone when his abuela dies, heads for the Mexican border, determined to find her in L.A.. A tear-jerking crowd pleaser, the movie broke opening week records for a Spanish-language film, earning $2.6 million.

As America’s first all-female mariachi band, Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles puts a new twist on traditional music. Their story, filmed for the documentary Compañeras, airs on the PBS series Independent Lens on Apr. 1 at 10 PM.
