Estylo’s own Gerri Miller gets the
scoop
from our favorite stars.

by Gerri Miller

Idol Gives Back, Happy mama Salma Hayek,
Kate Del Castillo and more!

The stars came out in Hollywood for American Idol’s second annual Idol Gives Back charity telethon to raise money for children’s organizations in the U.S. and Africa. One of the highlights was Gloria Estefan, bringing the Latin flavor with “Get on Your Feet,” backed up by percussion diva Sheila E. “I feel pretty privileged to be invited,” Estefan said afterward, confessing that she’s a huge Idol fan but refusing to pick a favorite contestant. “Every one of them has something special, and as a musician, I know the pressure they’re under week after week, performing live and standing there being criticized.”  It’ll only get tougher for them, she noted. “This business can rob you. You’ve got to have some stability, someone to keep you focused and humble.”

She’s winning raves for her latest movie, Under the Same Moon, and now Kate Del Castillo is about to make her English-language film debut in Bad Guys, which opens the Beverly Hills Film Festival on Apr. 9. Del Castillo plays a lawyer in the independent drama, about a drug caper gone bad. “"I love action movies and this one is full of action,” she says. “You are going to see me with guns, a strong woman."

After the musical number, Estefan changed into a chic in a custom made ensemble of Narciso Rodriguez black pants and matching Gustavo Cadile sheer-sleeved blouse, accessorized by eye-catching rings. A silver filigree beauty by Loree Rodkin almost covered an entire finger, and she wore a sparkly double ring given to her by a friend. “I wear it as a good luck charm,” she said.

Sheila E., in a sunshiny yellow Bebe Couture gown, glowed right down to her toes thanks to sparkly Jennifer Lopez sandals. “My manager blinged my shoes. She added the stones,” the drum goddess explained. “J.Lo should have put the shoe out like this!”

Idol Gives Back airs Apr. 8 at 7:30 PM on Fox.

Did you catch new mom Salma Hayek dishing with Oprah about her baby Valentina and her romance with Francois Henri-Pinault? She’s in no rush to get married, but said, “He’s the perfect guy for me. He pushes me to do better, which I like.” There to promote Pampers’ “One Pack, One Vaccine” program that will buy tetanus shots for babies in Africa, Hayek confided that she initially wanted a boy, “because I think they have it easier—I remembered how hard it is to be a woman.”

But when Valentina was born it was love at first sight. “She is so spoiled, but I will not apologize for it.” Hayek declared, telling Oprah she named the baby Valentina because it means “courageous one,” adding the middle name Paloma—meaning dove—for softness. “Sometimes I call her Palomita,” she smiled, but revealed it was a difficult pregnancy. “I gained a lot of weight. I had gestational diabetes.” She’s been shedding pounds slowly but surely. “There are short cuts but it’s not good for the baby” when you breast feed, she said.  “You know what they say: it takes nine months to get it, and nine months to lose it!”

John Leguizamo and Rosie Perez star in The Take as a struggling East L.A. couple whose lives change forever after his armored car driver character survives a violent hijacking and attempts to find the perpetrators before they can frame him for their crimes. It opens in L.A. and New York Apr. 11 and will be out on DVD May 27.

On TV, Maria Conchita Alonso and Carlos Ponce host ¡Viva Hollywood!, a VH1 reality show in which aspiring Latina and Latino soap stars  live together and compete in challenges while vying to win a role in a telenovela, a one-year lease on a Miami condo, and $100,000. Daisy Fuentes, Charo, and Cristián de la Fuente are among the guest judges on the show, which premieres Apr. 13 at 10:30 PM.
