Baby Fever is going around and we don’t know if it’s in the stars or something in the water but it seems like there’s a bumper crop of baby bumps among Latin celebs. Salma Hayek finally delivered daughter Valentina Paloma Pinault on Friday, September 21. Salma announced her engagement to businessman Francois Henri Pinault and confirmed she was expecting his baby in March.
Mexican pop star, actress and entrepreneur Thalía and her music mogul hubby Tommy Mottola welcomed their first child, an 8 pound, 4 ounce baby girl named Sabrina Sakae on October 7. Thalía’s publicist stated “Mother, father and baby Sabrina are all healthy and very happy and will be residing at their ranch in Colorado.” Thalía has a beauty book out now—can a parenting book be next? That leaves a couple of famous mamis-to-be still infanticipating—and one more who may be.
Christina Aguilera has been mum on the subject even as her tummy expands but finally fessed up to Glamour’s U.K. edition that there is indeed a baby in her future. When queried about her plans for the New Year, she stated “That'll be about the time I enter into mommyhood so I'm hoping to have started a beautiful family with my husband!” and added “I want it get it right, to balance (motherhood) well with my career.” It’s nice that Christina owned up to something that’s been obvious since late summer.
Another mami-to-be who played it cagey until the truth became impossible to ignore is Jennifer Lopez. Despite early denials from husband Marc Anthony, designer Roberto Cavalli spilled the beans on J.Lo’s impending motherhood. Asked about the challenges of dressing the diva, he replied “It is so complicated because every week she is getting bigger.” She finally owned up to the obvious onstage on November 7 in Miami, the last date of her joint North American tour with Anthony. “Marc and I are expecting a baby,” she stated. “This is a special time in our lives, and we waited until the last show to tell you.”
So who will be the next Latin lovely to come down with Baby Fever? Newlywed pop diva Paulina Rubio has denied rumours she is pregnant, saying she wants to enjoy the first year of married life before considering starting a family. But that first anniversary with Spanish businessman Nicolas Vallejo Nagera is coming up in January so it won’t be much of a surprise if Paulina is the next Latin celeb to trade divahood for motherhood.
